Every service we provide meets a high quality standard.

Nothing less. No exceptions.

West Walker Steel provides all facets of steel processing.

Our Steel Sources

At West Walker Steel, we source prime steel. This unrelenting dedication manifests in the products we source, the way each one is processed, and the manner in which they're deployed.
View ISO Certification
Prime

High quality steel without any defects. It is made to order by producers or purchased from stockholder's inventory. Prime steel includes full mill certification since it has passed all manufacturing inspections.

Excess Prime

Surplus steel that is leftover for various reasons but is otherwise perfectly usable and possibly even of high quality. Obtained due to an over-order, miscut, canceled project, location closure or it was simply overstocked.

Secondary

Ideal for applications that don't require the stringent quality controls that prime metal does. A few dings or aesthetic flaws don't matter when your material is getting painted, coated, or going non-visible application.

BASE PRODUCTS

We provide a wide range of steel products. From hot rolled black to all coated, we've got you covered.
HOT ROLL (HR)
The initial step in creating flat roll steel from melt. A steel slab is heated to a formable temperature and run thru a series of rolls to reduce the slab's thickness to a desired gauge. This process creates a Hot Roll coil as the strip is recoiled after rolling.

Gauge Range: .054" - .750"
HOT ROLL PICKLED & OIL (HRPO)
After hot rolling the steel strip has a rough surface covered with scale and oxides. The pickling process involves running the steel strip thru an acid bath which removes the scale and produces a clean, paintable surface. Oil is applied after pickling to prevent rust.

Gauge Range: .054" - .750"
COLD ROLL (CR)
This process takes a HRPO coil and by forcing it thru a series of rolls, reduces the thickness of the strip and improves the surface. The HRPO coil is not heated prior to this operation and is reduced simply by force. The strip is referred to as Cold Roll Full Hard following cold reduction. It can be utilized in this form, but the majority of CR product is further processed thru annealing and temper rolling. Annealing removes the stresses imparted in the steel during cold reduction and improves ductility. The temper pass improves the cross sectional shape of the strip and imparts the final gauge and physical properties.

Gauge Range: .015" - .130"

COATED PRODUCTS

Steel sheets are coated to help prevent corrosion of the steel substrate. Coated products can be either a CR or HR substrate.

HOT DIPPED GALVANIZE (HD GALV)

To create hot dipped galvanize products the steel strip is run thru a molten zinc bath. Following this process, the zinc is cooled and solidified on to the strip. The strip is then recoiled.

Gauge Range: .015" - .160"

ELECTRO GALVANIZE (EG)

Zinc is applied electrolytically to the steel substrate. Zinc particles in a bath are electrically charged and the substrate receives the opposite charge, and opposites attract.

Gauge Range: .023" - .065"

ALUMINIZED (AZ)

This process applies molten aluminum to the steel strip in a like manner to HD Galv. Aluminized steel is used heat resistant applications, such as automotive exhaust systems.

Gauge Range: .019" - .059"

GALVANEAL (GN)

Following HD GALV coating process, the strip is immediately run through an annealing furnace and then recoiled. This step anneals the zinc coating to the steel strip. Iron in the base metal combines with zinc coating.

Gauge Range: .015" - .160"

GALVALUME (GZ)

Similar to HD Galv process, but the molten bath is comprised of 55% Zinc and 45% aluminum. Galvalume has superior corrosion resistance and is primarily used in metal building applications.

Gauge Range: .015" - .160"
